HELP - My Share List

Your "My Share List" is a listing that you make of all the plants and seeds that you have available for swapping with others. You can edit, delete, and update this list at anytime, unless an item is currently involved in an active swap that is not yet complete. Each "My Share" listing contains the following items: Photo (if available) , Match Status of the Item, Genus, Species, Form, Cultivar or Variety, Common Name, Weight, Share Type, Listed In, Growing Zones, the State you live in, Edit link, Delete link, and a Half Matches link.

Entering the Items you'd like to Share
1. Simply click on "My Share List" and then on "ADD a New Item to My Share List".
2. Fill in as many of the following fields as possible: Genus, Species, Form, Cultivar or Variety, and Common Name. If you don't know the Latin name for a plant, enter at least it's Common Name. You can also check the following webpage for additional tips: HELP-Plant Identification
3. Choose from the drop down list whether your Shared Item is "Rooted", "Division", "Cutting", or "Seed".

  • A "Rooted" item is defined here as a plant with a stalk or stem that has established roots.
  • A "Division" would be a plant that has been divided from a larger plant, creating 2+ separate mature plants from the 1 larger one.
  • A "Cutting" is defined here where you would take a cutting implement, such as a knife, and literally cut a part of the plant away from the mother plant to create a "cutting". Cuttings usually have no roots and need to be placed in soil or some other media to produce roots and develop into another plant. Some plants root easily, while others do not.
  • And finally, "Seed" is just that... seed that was collected from the mother plant, that has not germinated yet.

4. Enter the approximate shipping weight of the item.
5. Enter how you'd like the item listed. (This will be used in more detail in future upgrades to the system.) Currently the choices are: "MyPlantSwap" for general plant listings, "MySeedSwap" for general seed listings, and "MyOrchidSwap" for specific Orchid Listings.
6. Enter the known Growing Zone(s) that this item will grow in when placed outdoors.
(Click here for a USDA Plant Hardiness Zone Map)
7. Enter the 2 letter abbreviation of the State that you live within. i.e.: FL for Florida.
8. Click the Submit Button to place your listing online.

Adding a Photo to your Shared Item
After placing your listing online, the system will give you a link to immediately upload a photo of your item. This is optional, but it is the BEST THING you can do to help create successful swaps for your plants and seeds. Nothing is better than looking at a photo of the actual plant item that you have for sharing to encourage people to desire it. If you choose to skip this step now, you can always upload a photo for this item later, by clicking on the link provided from within your "My Share List".
1. Click on the "Upload a Photo for This Item".
2. On the next screen click on the "Browse" button to locate your photo's file on your hard drive. Note that your photo must be 50k or smaller and in .JPG or .GIF Format to be accepted. Use a Photo Editing Software of your choice to compress the file size. I personally use "Picasa", a free photo organization and editing tool from Google. Just go to http://www.picasa.com to download it free.
3. After you find the file and have it entered into the field, click on the "Upload Photo" button to complete the process.

Editing an Item
Clicking on EDIT will allow you to change any aspect of your Shared Listing.
1. Click on "Edit" next to the item you'd like to update or change from within your "My Share List".
2. Update or Change any of the information contained within your listing.
3. Click "Submit".

4. Click on the "Upload Photo" button to complete the process.

Deleting a Photo
1. Click on "Edit" next to the item you'd like to delete the photo for, from within your "My Share List".
2. Click on "Delete Photo".

Deleting an Item Completely
Clicking on DELETE will allow you to delete this item completely from the system, unless it is currently involved in an active swap.
1. Click on "Delete" next to the item you'd like to delete from within your "My Share List".
2. Confirm this Item's deletion by clicking on "Yes, Delete It!"

Half Matches
If you click on the Half Matches link, it will display all Half Matches. In other words, one-way matches with people who are looking for an item similar to your own. From that window you can also click on the Username to see that person's Profile, or you can also click on "Their Shared Listings" to see all the items that this person currently has available for swapping. From that subsequent window you can then click on "Add to My Wish List" to add one of their Shared Items to your Wish List, so that it will make a Full Match the next time you click on "My Busy Bee".
1. Click on "Half Matches" next to the item you'd like to view Half Matches for, from within your "My Share List".
2. Optionally: Click on this person's "Username" to view their Profile and Feedback.
3. Optionally: Click on "Their Shared Listings" to view this person's plants & seeds that they have for sharing.

A) If you clicked on "Their Shared Listings" as explained above, you now have the option of adding one of "Their Shared Listings" to your "Wish List". Simply click on "Add to My Wish List".
B) You now need to go back to that listing inside your "My Wish List" and click on "Edit", in order to add missing information, like your state, etc.
